Infectious diseases are a branch of medicine dealing with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by microorganisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites. In addition, infectious disease specialists deal with the diagnosis and treatment of epidemic, pandemic and tropical diseases. Due to the specific involvement of certain organs by viruses, infectious disease specialists often also deal with the diagnosis and treatment of liver disease.
