Prof. Sebastian Szmit is a graduate of the Military Medical Academy in Lodz, from which he graduated with the best result in the history of the university. From 2002 to 2012, he was affiliated with the Military Medical Institute, where he worked at the Hospital Emergency Department, the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology and the Department of Oncology. From 2007-2012, he co-founded the Effort Test and Ergospirometry Laboratory at the Central Clinical Hospital. Since 2012, an academic teacher at the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education (CMKP) and a physician at the European Health Center Otwock. Since 2021, consultant cardiologist at the Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology IHiT in Warsaw. Since 2022, consultant cardiologist at the Department of Oncology Diagnostics and Cardiooncology, Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology – PIB. Scientist and physician dedicated to patients treated for cancer. First Polish cardio-oncologist certified in 2020 by the International Cardio-Oncology Society International Cardio-Oncology Society, Member of the Scientific Council at JACC CardioOncology as an International Advisor (a journal owned by the American College of Cardiology). Co-author of the European Hematology Association guidelines on antiplatelet and anticoagulant treatment in cancer patients with thrombocytopenia. Co-author of the first historical European Society of Cardiology guidelines dedicated to cardio-oncology.
